The Film Academy seeks to offer a variety of film courses serving all ages in;
On Camera Acting, Film Styles, Screenwriting, Intro to Film Production, and Intro to Post Production!

Please Note: Fall Film Courses are currently focused on young Adult/Adult learning. Recommended age is 16+.

    Age Range: Geared towards Adult students, recommended age is 16+

    Description: In this level 1 course, we will use the framework of writing a short film script to dive into how to; write visually, write in proper screenplay format, create log-lines, the 3-act structure, and how to map out your project using ‘the cards’. The end goal of this course is to have your short film script carded out and a rough draft of the 1st act written. 

    PLEASE NOTE: This class is a writing course with weekly in-class and out-of-class writing activities.

    Age Range: Geared towards Adult students, recommended age is 16+

    Day/Time: Saturday's, 10am-1pm

    Class Dates Include: 9/7, 9/14, 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26

    Description: Love movies, and would love to know more about how they are produced, lit, shot, edited and specific genre's? Then this is the class for you!

    In this introductory course, we'll look at the different genres and film making styles within the world of cinema. We'll be watching and exploring film in each class, with extra opportunities to watch films outside of class.

    Class Dates include: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5

    Description: Post-Production: In this class, we'll jump into the world of post-production, or, the "computer part" of film-making. This includes a survey of the fundamentals of post-production (Editing, color, sound mixing, animation, titles, foley sound, and beyond), as well as hands-on application of those techniques. We will discuss and use camera(s) sparingly in order to create material for our projects, but the majority of our energy will be spent manipulating existing footage or creating moving images from scratch.

    Class will be taught in Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and/or DaVinci Resolve (per students needs and equipment).

  • Doug lives in La Crosse, WI, where he works as a multimedia artist. From his day-life as a video editor and motion graphics designer for commercial video, to his night-life as a musician and recording engineer, he finds happiness and inspiration through creative collaboration. He has previously lived in Columbus, OH, New York City, NY, Seattle, WA, and Dallas, TX, picking up tools and tricks at a wide range of media-related jobs along the way. These include: Musical Director for Cabin Fever Live Arts, Video Editor at The UDDA (digital media and marketing agency), Recording and Mastering Engineer at Whalehouse Records, Video Editor at Joy Jacobs Photography and more…

    His favorite films are Total Recall, 12 Monkeys, and Magnolia.

  • For the last twelve of her twenty-four years in LA, Anne was a documentary producer and casting for The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, PBS "Nova," three iterations of "Cosmos," and various other production companies. She decamped back to Wisconsin in 2003 and has taught Film and Theatre Appreciation as an adjunct professor at Viterbo. Anne has directed plays for the Pump House, The La Crosse Community Theater, and UW-La Crosse.

  • is an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Music Theatre at Viterbo University. Previously he was Department Chair of the Theatre and Film Department at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, CA. He holds a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance from The New School in NYC, where he also has a degree in Film Production and Screenwriting. In addition, he has an MFA in Directing from University of Memphis and a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Philanthropy. He has been a member of AEA and SAG AFTRA for almost 20 years. His professional credits include numerous stage productions including working at The Public Theatre and Irish Repertory Theater in NYC. He also has many on-screen credits in TV, Film, Commercials, and industrial work including; A guest star role on Law & Order SVU Ep.“Gone”, One Life to Live, The Notorious Bettie Page, Lincoln directed by Steven Spielberg and many others.

    Favorite Films: Hot Fuzz, 8 ½ , Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
